Dear Professor Yew,
I am playing Pokémon Platinum and have collected the Orbs for Palkia and Dialga, I have the Flute for Arceus and have the Pass for Darkrai, but the portals are not anywhere to be found and nobody is asking for the Flute. I am really stuck and have no idea what I have to do. Please help.

Wade, thanks for your question. Once you have found the Lustrous and Adamant Orbs, you need to go to Spear Pillar and you will see two strange lights. Approach the blue light and you will find the portal to Dialga, while the pink one will lead to Palkia. However, the lights will not appear until after you have defeated the Elite Four and the Champion. If you have the Azure Flute, you need to travel to the top of Mt Coronet, where the Flute will start making noises. Use it and a glowing stairway will appear, leading you to Arceus. The Darkrai Pass is only available at special Nintendo events. If you have the Pass, you need to go to the Inn in the northeast corner of Canalave City. Here you will fall asleep and will wake up on New Moon Island and this is where you’ll find Darkrai. Hope this helps and happy hunting.

I have been playing the new Pokémon game SoulSilver and I can’t get up the waterfall inside the cavern in the Whirl Islands, where you encounter Lugia. Please can you tell me how to get up the waterfall? By the way, my party is Typhlosion Lv51, Miltank Lv15, Machop Lv23, Nidoran Lv12, Mareep Lv11 and Pidgey Lv7. Will they be any good?

Thank you for your letter, Patrick. In order to get up the waterfall, you need to use HM07 Waterfall, which you can find on the Ice Path. Once at the top you can then battle Lugia. This is a really tough battle and before attempting it, you should a have a team of Pokémon at around level 45. It would be a good idea to have several Pokémon that can Paralyze Lugia, which will make him easier to catch. You will also need a good supply of high-powered Poké Balls, like Ultra Balls to help you to catch this legendary Pokémon.

I am writing to you about the new Pokémon game for the Nintendo Wii, PokéPark – Pikachu’s Great Adventure. I am going to Florida in the summer and I wondered if you could tell me if I brought the game while in America, would it still work on my Wii at home? Also could you please tell me where you can catch a Vulpix in Pokémon HeartGold, because it is my favourite Pokémon?

Emma, thank you for your letter. Unfortunately American and UK games consoles are different so US games will not work on European Wiis. Luckily for you, the game is being released in the UK before America, so you will be able to play it before our cousins across the pond. In fact it will be in the shops by the time you read this! With regards to Vulpix, unfortunately it is not available in the HeartGold version of the game and can only be caught in the wild from the SoulSilver version. To get one, you’ll need to trade with a friend who has the SoulSilver version.

I’m thinking of buying some HeartGold and SoulSilver stuff and looked at the Pokébay section in the mag, but nothing took my fancy. Any idea where I can go to get some cool Pokémon goodies?

Thanks for your letter, Amber. I am also always on the look out for cool Pokémon stuff, but to be really honest it can be really hard to find. By far the best place to get Pokémon goodies is from the Pokémon Center in Japan or in America, but unfortunately there is no Pokémon Center in the UK and none of the stores will ship internationally, so it’s hard to get the good stuff. My advice is to keep checking eBay for sellers in Japan or America, who will buy items from the Pokémon Center and ship them over to you here in the UK. Be aware that the postage will cost quite a lot, but at least you’ll know your items are genuine.

Dear Professor Yew,
I have been checking on this shrine in the Ilex Forest, but it doesn’t seem to do anything. Can you please tell me what it does?

The shrine has been in Ilex Forest since Pokémon Gold and Silver and does different things in each version of the game. It is not used at all in Gold and Silver, but in Pokémon Crystal it was used to catch Celebi via a GS Ball, which could only be got by using the mobile GB, a feature that was not available in any version other than Japan. However, in the latest version of the game, HeartGold and SoulSilver, the shrine is used to get a Spiky-Eared Pichu. If you want this awesome Pokémon to join your party, you’ll need to show it a Pikachu-coloured Pichu or a Pikachu/Raichu that has evolved from one.

I am a big fan of Pokémon and love the games. Unfortunately, I did have lots of Pokémon toys but they seem to have gone missing. My parents said we got rid of them, but I don’t believe them! I’ve decided to restart my collection with the films; I already have a few but don’t seem to be able to find the rest. Do you have any idea where I can get them?

Oh dear, Alex, that is a real shame. The Pokémon movies are exceptionally hard to find in the UK as they are not considered a big release and many of the high street stores do not stock them. The best place is to look on the internet for DVD retailers who may well have them in stock. If they don’t, it may be an idea to email a few of them as they can probably order them in for you. Good luck with replacing your collection.

Does team Raider actually do anything on mystery dungeon? I go to the beach every day and they don’t do a thing. You can’t really kick them in the pants or anything. Also, why haven’t they made an evolution of apsol, wobbuffet, male combee, stantler ect? It would be really cool. They also need to make a pokemon based on a tiger, a lion, a pegasus and a komodo dragon. At the same time, in the same skin.

I can’t decide between a physically based or specially based Infernape for my lead in competitive battles, which set do you think would work better?
Special – Timid/Modest nature, 252 Sp.A, 252 Speed and 4 HP (for my EV spread of course) and either a Focus Sash or a Lum Berry for the item.
Moveset – Fire Blast, Vacuum Wave, Stealth Rock, Nasty Plot
I have bred so that i have 31 IV’s in Speed, and 30 in Att and Sp.A both so i can take either route.
Physical – Jolly/Adamant nature, 252 Att, 252 Speed and 4 HP and either a Focus Sash or Life Orb.
Moveset – Fake Out, Mach Punch, Flare Blitz, Close Combat
So what do you think would be a better set for the Gen IV OverUsed metagame?

I’ve been playing on pokemon vortex(a pokemon game on the pc)and I’ve come across a pokemon called”Darkrown”.It looks so much like darkrai but stronger.I then went on seribii to check it up but it seems its not on any of the nintendo published games.I then found a picture and pressed a link and it said that it is the devil and it fought with Arceus and then was banished.It then created a servant.It’s name is Darkrai… could i please have more information.

In my Heartgold game I’ve repaired the mechine in Lavender town and got the pokegear upgraded but it’s called pokemon music!So then I got to Diglett’s cave to wake up Snorlax ,I put the Pokemon music on and talked to the sleepy Snorlax, and he wouldn’t battle me!!!He just stayed asleep!PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!

I am not prof.yew but I can help you.Your WAILORD is missing,due to a save file corruption.This is a kind of glitch caused under certain conditions (e.g very old game,using AR codes,performing the missingno glitch or even turning off your system while saving.)There is no way for getting it back at all.If you want to know,the only hope to “resurect” it is to try hunting your WAILORD at all the PC boxes.If you cant find it,there is no hope.
I say, some of the questions are a bit blunt, but some have a really good background. Although, the answers are pretty obvious for us poke-veterans.

Dear Profffesor Yew,
I have 2 Pokemon pearls,a diamond,a heart gold, a soul silver,a black and a white I also have most of the films and have seen loads of the shows[all the sinnoh series].And i was wondering why my gligar wont evolve i leveled it up holding the razor at night and was surprised it wouldnt evolve please help. also i cant unterstand how to catch the three legendary golems and manaphy [i know how i just understand it.also i have nearly seen every pokemon in my pokemon pearl game and are trying to find all of the remaining pokemon if you could answer all of my questions [and this one two what level does piloswine learn ancient power]. please answer them.
