Fresh from meeting Professor Oak for the first time and making Pikachu his first Pokémon, it wasn’t long before Ash wanted to practise his Pokémon capturing skills. As you will know, if you can’t catch wild Pokémon, you’re no one! In episode ‘Ash catches a Pokémon’, he set off into the Kanto region and the first Pokémon he encountered in the Viridian Forest was a Caterpie. Luckily for Ash this Pokémon was weak, and it was soon captured when Ash threw a Pokéball at it – there was no Pokémon battle needed.
The night after being captured, Caterpie revealed to Pikachu that he really wanted to evolve into a Butterfree, but that would first mean becoming a Metapod and Caterpie didn’t think he could do it. Pikachu encouraged him to try. In a battle with Team Rocket, Caterpie managed to evolve, then in ‘Challenge of the Samurai’ while attacking a Beedrill with his Sleep Powder he finally managed to achieve his ambition and evolved into a Butterfree, to Ash’s delight!
i loved caterpie and pikachu because they were the best of friends and i feel sorry for caterpie because it wanted to be friends with misty so much but she just hated bug pokemon, carrots and peppers.
These part just makes you feel so emotional!

Classic episode, and the only episode in which Ash catches more than one Pokemon (Caterpie AND Pidgeotto). Add to that a rollercoaster of emotions, an epic Team Rocket battle and Pokeshipping goodness, and you have yourself here a real classic.
I first saw this in 1999 (I was
when the first 6 or so episodes were aired for the first time in a half-term week on GMTV. Episodes like this are what made me fall in love with the anime and Pokemon in general.

i remember GMTV and they had all of my favorites on there and i remember ant and decs saturday morning show with cat dellay they had pokemon episodes on for all morning and they got ron and harry from harry potter on there once and they gave away pokemon toys
these people that just pick on over people because they are different are just totally wrong and like meowth said out of the first pokemon movie ‘if people looked at what was the same instead of what was different then who will know what will happen’ i love that comment i say to my friends all of the time they don’t like pokemon but two of my other older friends do
you know when u watch something for the first time and you think
“ohh whats this rubbish on the tele”
but the 2nd time you watch it you cant make your mind up if you like it or not
and then someone convinces you and then you do like it
i got that when pokemon came out, i didnt think i would like it long but for 10 maybe 11 whole years i love it more then ever.
my brother introduced me to it and now he is not a fan but me on the other hand IM CRAZZY ABOUT ITTTTT i play the games, luvs the anime i luv anything to do with pokemon.
